Jeden Tag werden weltweit von Herstellern Produkte abgekündigt, also Ihr End of Life wird angekündigt. Dies beeinflusst nicht nur den Anlagenhersteller sondern weitestgehend den Betreiber der Anlage. Das Ausfallrisiko bei einem defekten Bauteil innerhalb der Anlage steigt. Statistisch gesehen geben deutsche Unternehmen 6 -10% des Bruttoanlagevermögens für die jährliche Instandhaltung aus. Dies beläuft sich derzeit in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland auf ca. 250 Mrd.[\[1\]](https://info.radwell.de/ersatzteil-management#_ftn1)Euro jährlich. Nehmen wir hierzu noch die indirekten Kosten aus Maschinenausfällen, Lieferausfälle, Qualitätsproblemen sowie kurzfristige Ersatzinvestitionen, sprechen wir sogar über einen Wert von 750 Mrd. Euro pro Jahr. In der Regel belaufen sich die Instandhaltungskosten abhängig von Betrieb und Branche auf 2 - 20% des Wiederbeschaffungswertes einer Anlage.
